We place a high value on maintaining a clean, safe, relaxed, and community oriented environment where everyone feels welcomed. Our guiding principle is integrity and we believe mutual respect is the key to our success.
Our story began here at the hostel three years ago when after traveling for 18 months, Kerry came here as a guest and met the owner, a confirmed bachelor, Raúl. They fell in love and married a few months later and began their journey as husband and wife and business partners to develop a new improved Place to Stay.
Together they make a powerful team with Raúl's intimate knowledge of his native homeland Guatemala and 17 years working in tourism and Kerry’s extensive experience as a traveler they have created A Place to Stay which is a haven for travelers craving a comfortable place that feels like home.
It’s important that you like animals as we have pet cats and a bunny rabbit; the animals roam free around our property and are very friendly. If you have allergies you should be fine as our pets are not allowed inside the guest rooms.
The guest rooms are colorfully decorated in the Guatemalan tradition with basic facilities: a comfortable bed, small bedside table with a lamp, hooks for hanging towels or jackets and a piece of furniture enabling the essentials to be unpacked for convenience. The double rooms offer two beds, a twin and a double bed so it is perfect for friends sharing a room or a couple. The single private room offers one double bed for one person or for a couple who doesn't mind being close as this room size is less spacious than the double. Each of the private rooms are issued one key per room upon check-in.
Shared rooms (dormitories)
The shared rooms are for those that are a little more budget conscious or traveling alone and enjoy making new friends. We offer comfortable single beds each equipped with it's own reading lamp and a locker. The guests in shared rooms are not issued a key for the room and are encouraged to use the lockers provided to secure their belongings.
All guests have access to four shared bathrooms, two upstairs and two downstairs.
We do not offer any rooms with private baths.
We offer all the comforts of home including: purified drinking water, hot water showers, top quality bath towels, same day laundry service (extra charge), complimentary coffee, tea, and a choice of two breakfast options each day depending on your preference and schedule.
These rules are in place to make sure everyone can relax, enjoy and get a good night's sleep.
- CURFEW: the front door locks promptly at 00:00 midnight with no re-entry until 7:00
- Departure before 7:00 is by pre-arrangement only with 24 hours notice.
- For security reasons outside visitors are not permitted without prior approval
- Smoking and/or drugs are not allowed anywhere on the property
- For the comfort of other guests, please do not let cats in the rooms
- Kitchen closes at 23:00: make sure you clean up after yourself
- Please conserve hot water and limit shower to 15 minutes
- Breakfast includes two choices for your convenience; please choose only ONE
- Make yourself at home!
For safety reasons, guests must ring the bell outside the front door to enter the premises, no keys will be issued. The entry hours are 7:00-23:59.
We lock up at midnight with no re-entry until 7:00am. No refunds or discounts will be given to those not back by this time.
The property is a smoke and drug-free environment.

Payment & confirmation
The full payment is required to confirm your reservation. After the system sends you a confirmation email the property will make direct contact with instructions on how to make payment using a credit card.
If no payment or reply is received within 48 hours then the reservation will be cancelled.
Seven days prior to arrival a refund minus the first night’s stay will be issued.
For the weeks of Christmas & New Years as well as Easter week:
For these periods the cancellation policy requires a two week time period (14 days) prior to the reservation will receive a refund minus the first night's stay plus a $15 processing fee. Cancellations made after fourteen days prior to the date of reservation will not receive a refund.
If you are trying to make a reservation with less than 24 hours, the system will show we are full which may not be the case.
