The name rebozo comes from the Spanish language, the verb which means to cover or envelope oneself. This long flat garment is the cross between a scarf and a shawl and each one has been worn previously by indigenous women in the highlands of Guatemala. Since these are pre-owned each one has it’s own story and although we may not know the specific details of its past by owning one you are merging tradition with the modern world. Each of these unique pieces of mayan culture are hand woven cotton (some combined with silk) and dyed using only plants with the ikat technique. A variety of sizes and colors are available.
"It is said the wearing of the rebozo makes the movement of a woman more graceful."
Please note: in addition to being worn as a shawl, these antique fabrics are also great as bed scarves, table runners, or a beautiful accent to your favorite chair.
The length is 62 inches and the width is 21 inches.
