If you are in good health, have more than two days in Antigua and an adventurous spirit then this trip is for you! This is a challenging hike about five- six hours uphill to base camp where you will spend the night, and about another one and a half hours up to the summit for sunrise. Although Acatenango is not an active volcano it is the perfect location to view its twin, Volcano Fuego, which erupts on a regular basis. The temperature can get as low as 34 degrees Fahrenheit so be sure to bring warm clothes (we rent jackets, hats, gloves, and scarves for a minimal fee). The price includes your roundtrip transportation (about 2 hours each way), a guide, your camping equipment and food. You will need to bring the following: 4 liters of water, snacks, and flashlight. The terrain includes loose volcanic rocks so you should have sturdy closed toed shoes and we recommend renting a walking stick when you begin your hike for about Q5 (65cents). The altitude at the summit is 13,000 feet.
The tour leaves daily at 9:00am and returns the following day around 12:00pm.
**You will be required to pay Q50 (around $7) upon entrance to the national park, this is not included in the price.
